Privacy Policy

Veil ("we", "us", or "the Service") is a private iOS browser whose core feature is generating
real-time Chinese subtitles for web video. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains
what data we collect, how we use it, and how we handle your audio content. By using Veil, you
agree to the data practices described in this policy.
Information We Collect
To provide accounts and subtitle service, we collect a limited set of data:

Apple sign-in identifier (sub): when you use "Sign in with Apple", Apple
provides us with an anonymous, stable identifier (
sub) tied to your Apple
account. We use it to create and recognize your account. We do not receive your Apple ID,
email address, or real name unless you choose to share them during the Apple sign-in flow.

Usage records: for metering and rate limiting, we record the audio duration
(in seconds) and translated character count for each request, aggregated daily. This is used
for balance deduction, abuse prevention, and cost accounting.
How Audio Is Handled
Audio you submit for transcription in Veil is forwarded in real time to a
third-party speech recognition service for processing and is never stored
on our servers. The audio is used only to generate the transcription result for
that request and is discarded immediately afterward. We retain only the duration metric for
that request — never the audio content itself.
Third-Party Processors
To provide speech recognition (ASR) and text translation, we forward audio and text to the
following third-party processor:
- Volcano Engine (a ByteDance cloud service): processes speech recognition and machine translation requests.
Data transferred to Volcano Engine is used solely to fulfill the transcription/translation
request you initiated, not for advertising or any other purpose unrelated to Veil. Volcano
Engine's handling of this data is governed by its own privacy policy and terms of service.
How We Use Data
- To identify and maintain your account, keeping you signed in consistently across devices.
- To calculate your credits balance and enforce daily usage limits, preventing abuse.
- To troubleshoot issues, monitor service health, and respond to incidents.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Data Retention
Account information and usage records are retained for as long as your account exists, for
balance calculation and reconciliation. Audio content itself is not stored — see "How Audio Is
Handled" above.
Data Deletion
If you would like to delete your account and associated data, please email
support@veilbrowsers.com. We will process your request
after verifying your identity.
Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal
information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information
without parental consent, please contact us so we can delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on
this page, with the "Effective date" above updated accordingly. Continued use of Veil after
changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
