Terms of Service

Welcome to Veil. The following terms ("these Terms") form the agreement between you and Veil governing your use of the Service. By using Veil, you agree to these Terms; if you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Description of Service

Veil is a private iOS browser that proxies speech recognition and machine translation capabilities server-side to generate real-time Chinese subtitles for web video. The Service requires a network connection and relies on third-party speech recognition/translation processors — see our Privacy Policy for details.

Credits Metering

Veil meters usage in credits: each transcription request deducts credits from your account balance based on audio duration (1 credit = 1 minute). Text translation is not separately charged but is counted toward usage for rate limiting and cost accounting. New users receive a number of complimentary credits upon sign-up.

We reserve the right to adjust credits pricing rules, unit prices, and daily usage limits; such changes will be reflected within the Service or on this page.

Non-Transferable, Non-Refundable

Credits may only be used within your own account and are not transferable to other accounts or users, and cannot be redeemed for cash. Except where required by applicable law (for example, consumer protection regulations in your jurisdiction), credits already granted or purchased are non-refundable. For credits obtained through App Store in-app purchases, refund requests are handled under Apple's official refund policy.

Prohibited Uses

When using Veil, you may not:

Use automated scripts, bots, or other abnormal means to bulk-call the API or farm credits or usage quota;
Resell, lend, or otherwise transfer your account or credits balance to any third party;
Attempt to bypass, circumvent, or interfere with the Service's authentication, rate limiting, or billing mechanisms;
Use the Service for any purpose that violates applicable laws or regulations.

We reserve the right to restrict or ban accounts that violate the above, without refunding any remaining credits balance.

Service Availability

The Service is provided "as is". We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or continuous availability. The accuracy of speech recognition and translation results depends on the capabilities of third-party processors, and we make no guarantees regarding their accuracy. We may suspend or modify the Service for maintenance, upgrades, or reasons beyond our control, and will make reasonable efforts to notify you in advance of material changes.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Veil and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service.

Account Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. If you seriously or repeatedly violate these Terms, we may suspend or terminate your account access.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page, with the "Effective date" above updated accordingly. Continued use of Veil after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
